I Knew My House Was Too Dusty and I'm The Only One That Cares

This NYT article discusses the "happiness gap" between men and women. Apparently men have found ways to cut back on activities they find unpleasant in the past 40 or 50 years and women spend as much time as they ever did on chores. It's just that now the chores also involve paid employment and the housework gets pushed back down on the list of priorities.
I'm not sure what conclusions I draw for myself from this. I'm tempted to say I should try harder to not be bothered by the dusty surfaces and the cat and dog hair on the carpet.

i know i would be a lot happier if my house were cleaner or even if my hubbie made an effort to help keep it cleaner instead of making it harder for me.

I think I'd be a lot happier if I stopped comparing the state of my house to the state of the house I grew up in. We had a live-in housekeeper/nanny until I was 5 and then a housekeeper who came three times a week for many years after that. (And a yard guy came to take care of the lawn and such, of course.) My mom was a stay-at-home mom, too. I pretty much thought all the house stuff took care of itself because I don't really recall seeing anyone else actually doing the cleaning.

Apparently cleaning the house is a form of Zen meditation. Be mindful and dust... http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0838/is_n54/ai_8283155
